Suede sherpa back Coat, Vest and Scarf

Used a Pattern, but as usual, improvised.  Looked at peoples coats as they came in and decided to do the seams out and top stitch.  Wanted inseam side pockets, but wanted to make the coat reversible.  Doubled the pockets so both sides of the pocket were sherpa to feel good on the hands, either way.

SimplicityPattern No. 8467

Pattern with improvised adjustments:

Scraps end became Scarf and Vest

Scarf is just a side strip and used an elastic or bracelet for banding in center instead of knotting... keeps neck toastie.

Pattern for vest-seams only at side and shoulders...ended up sewing down lapels for a more tailored look- made it a little longer than pattern so it would go to bottom of my tunic tops.

Making a Coat with some Leftover fur and Minky

I improvised using this pattern for guide, but didn't have enough fabric so I had to randomly piece some of it.

I have these three pieces of Fabric to use

Many fun and sooo soft and warm Faux Furs at

Sleeves for one side are done...

This is the back of the Jacket with the sleeves laying against it so I can see how that combo will look

I have a scarf I love to wear, because it is sooo soft and warm..

I love this scarf, so hopefully, I can make a coat to match it, with the leftovers..

This is side one... I made two coats by sewing the scraps together... improvised on the pattern, because I didn't have enough of any one fabric to complete as it was on the pattern...I love this coat... it is lightweight and I can wear either side..

Side two...

One coat but two sewn together so it was reversible.  I did this by sewing the two coats and sewing the two together all the way around with right sides together and leaving a small opening at the bottom so I could flip it.

I then had to topstitch all the way around to give it a  more finished look.

This is the softest lightest weight fur ever... and the other two fabrics were minky and it was the same weight.   Thanks for the many compliments today.

Two pieces of leftovers went to fingerless gloves, so I could feel the steering wheel when driving
Just sew the slots into the tube the size of your hands so your fingers and thumb each have a channel...(I don't like to be cold)

Still had some leftovers and an old purse that I was going to throw away... took all the rings and zippers off of it and made this purse.. totally lined and top zip plus middle zip on both sides... left over pleather made the strapping.  The top side panel is a kayaking sunrise printed on a velvet, I had left over from some pillows, shown below.

This is the opposite side.  The strap is adjustable with a purse slide or you can use D rings.

I still have enough little pieces to make a clutch like this...

Matched the purple jacket

Matched the Black Fur Coat I Made
Now to make one to match the crazy fur quilted jacket

I was working on the wing chair, but got distracted to the coat... and maybe a pillow, maybe a little guitar.

The problem is the chairs are beckoning me to sit on them and then I take a break and don't get anything done!....
I am going I am going!  - with the new filler they are sooooooo comfortable... and the leftover fabric can make a tablecloth for the little table and cover some boxes to get more organized here.... sooo fun!

Made the pillow... now making a bigger one for the Sofa.... same fabric... sooo soft-invisible zipper at the bottom

If there is enough time, I am going to try to make either a blouse to wear tomorrow, or an outfit.

But
I have to wash my hair.... so,
1.  I will cut out the coat(Jacket)...
2.  wash my hair...
3.  sew the pillow and then sew the jacket and
4.   see what time it is...
5.  Try to make something to wear under the Jacket that is new...
6.  and some Faux Fur leg warmers.... with some velcro and elastic... quick and easy....
DONE

Gotta Use these Leftovers...!

These chairs are making my creative mind- just go wild.....  Loving the fabrics...!!!!

Don't tell me you don't have enough time to sew.. I don't have enough time to drive around to stores and not find what I want.

Basics of Sewing

The Basics...

Needle.... Hand or Machine

There are various eye (hole in the top of the needle) for hand needles... different lengths and different points.   Dull points or rounded points are usually for hand work such as cross stitch and crewel work so it parts the threads where the weave is instead of making a new hole in the material.  The eye pertains to what size thread is going through the needle or..... how good your eyesight is...Not too big an eye if your material will stretch bigger and not mend itself and go back to shape.  If you are sewing things like buttons you want a SHARP... not a dull point.

Machine?....  Ball Point or Regular...... Ball Point is for knits so you don't cut the elastic threads.

Thread... All Purpose works great  Some people like to get silk or silk covered for sewing with silks.

Material.... Sooooo Many kinds... Woven, Knit and ????

We have Cottons, Rayons, Polyester, Silks...  All kinds of Textures  some stretch... some nets

A Pattern?..... not necessary, but they can be fun and interchangeable....

No Pattern.... Stand in front of a mirror... pinch your shoulders together on the fabric and pin and stitch.... or cut a hole and put it over your head and turn under the neckline and top stitch or cut a strip on the diagonal..... or bias and stitch that over the edge..... Have kimono sleeves... or no sleeves.... again turn under the edge and top stitch or fold over a strip of fabric and sew that on...

Details ?????

I love leggin patterns.... easy and quick... you don't have to make them tight...... then they are tubins not leggins... LOL

Pants from Leggin Pattern - 20 minutes to make- 4 way stretch from our Treasure Hunt Room at G Street Fabrics... Just over a yard of fabric at 2.97 a yard.

Jacket 2.5 yards 1.5 hours... and shirt with scarf... 2 1/8 yards 1 hour.(wide jersey cut on the bias)

Come on have some fun and fill your closet!!

Silk chiffon with merino wool fibers - nuno felting scarves

Reversible blanket coats... I have two and they are both reversible

Take your leftovers and quilt a warm blankety scarf to match
