Easy Coats Made Reversible

Make 2 and sew them together-leave an opening at the bottom and flip.

Made two sewn together and flipped, got 1/4 yard of faux fur and sewn over the edge of the coat all the way around and around sleeve ends.  Ripped the 1/4 into 2 pieces of 1/8 width-left over fur.

This was sherpa backed faux suede so you only need to sew one and the flip the edges back and top stitch, open the seams and topstitch.

This was just front and back pieces folded over edge sewn on front, then topstitched and all fur pieces were just attached by snaps so, you could remove them if wanted.

SewingwithKitty -new blog links for how to sew

Everyone keeps asking me for details.. We now have classes starting in beginner on Line

Go down to the square that says learn to sew at

Gstreetfabrics.com

This was a simple sweatshirt jacket and a simple cotton shirtwaist.

I do work at G Street Fabrics.   I do make everything I wear and all my gifts.  People ask if I do classes..No I am not technically a teacher and have never taken classes myself... But if I can do it you can.  SEW, take the classes at G Street on line and you will learn many detailed how to do it right things...

I also am blogging 2 new blogs to show you step by step sewing.

Showing you details of the things I wear and carry and live with.

Sewing a Tote Bag

The first of this semi-teaching series of only simple things is

A Tote Bag - using Gstreets vinyl and Upholstery Flat Folds at only 7.97 a yard.  You can make 2.

The next on this beginner blog is pillows with invisible zipper but will explain the other types of toss pillows

Sewalongwithkitty.com Pillows

https://www.sewalongwithkitty.com/2022/03/sewalongwithkitty-simple-knife-edge.html

The second blog of this series are a little more difficult - more intermediate.

http://www.sewmorewithkitty.com

SewmorewithKitty  and it will have sewing in multiples and making reversible things... different things that you might think difficult, but will see with me that they are all pretty simple, but takes time.

These will be more clothing.

Still needing some facemasks?... I do!

Showing you the precut pieces I have already for me to make a mask with each outfit.  The linings are 200 count muslin to be soft against the face.  The top two pieces could either be the actual outfit fabric or if needed, they could be the lining.  The second row is the filter pocket if you like one.  I use 4 of these and sew the center seam first of two pair, sew them together on the sides rightside together and flip.  Then stitch all around the pocket close to the edge.  Lay that on the top pieces that have been sewn together in the middle seam.  Sew the front long edge of the bottom row pieces, by turning it under quarter inch, and topstitching. Lay those to pieces on top of the filter pocket which is on top of the center of the facemask front right side up.  pin all around the edge .... sew close to the edge all the way around and then flip.... lay your ear elastics on the edge of the sides and have the elastics in a loop as they will go around your ears.  Fold the sides over and top stitch down the foldover so it goes through the elastic.  As you can see what I use now already has the adjusters on.  If you foldover a little further in you can have room to actually put a cord through and have a hanger for around your neck through the extra casing.

I am tired of them, but I wear them everyday when I am not at home and I DONOT take them off in public to blow my nose ewwww germs... cough....ewwww germs... PEOPLE remember what the facemasks are for... anyway.

I find that  if I put both elastic at the ears and a nose insert, plus a neck hanger, I can wear the mask comfortably without taking it off all day.. The neck hanger, tightener will keep the mask on my face correctly if for some reason the elastics are bothering my ears.  I have both kinds of elastics.. the tiny lightweight cord with adjusters and some with the 3 inch loop.  Next to the ear elastic casings, I have a second casing for the neck hanger.   If you want one I do sell them on etsy so you can copy my style...  The filter pocket is double 200ct muslin.  Soft against the face but makes the mask 3 layers without adding a filter.

Making a Coat with some Leftover fur and Minky

I improvised using this pattern for guide, but didn't have enough fabric so I had to randomly piece some of it.

I have these three pieces of Fabric to use

Many fun and sooo soft and warm Faux Furs at

Sleeves for one side are done...

This is the back of the Jacket with the sleeves laying against it so I can see how that combo will look

I have a scarf I love to wear, because it is sooo soft and warm..

I love this scarf, so hopefully, I can make a coat to match it, with the leftovers..

This is side one... I made two coats by sewing the scraps together... improvised on the pattern, because I didn't have enough of any one fabric to complete as it was on the pattern...I love this coat... it is lightweight and I can wear either side..

Side two...

One coat but two sewn together so it was reversible.  I did this by sewing the two coats and sewing the two together all the way around with right sides together and leaving a small opening at the bottom so I could flip it.

I then had to topstitch all the way around to give it a  more finished look.

This is the softest lightest weight fur ever... and the other two fabrics were minky and it was the same weight.   Thanks for the many compliments today.

Two pieces of leftovers went to fingerless gloves, so I could feel the steering wheel when driving
Just sew the slots into the tube the size of your hands so your fingers and thumb each have a channel...(I don't like to be cold)

Still had some leftovers and an old purse that I was going to throw away... took all the rings and zippers off of it and made this purse.. totally lined and top zip plus middle zip on both sides... left over pleather made the strapping.  The top side panel is a kayaking sunrise printed on a velvet, I had left over from some pillows, shown below.

This is the opposite side.  The strap is adjustable with a purse slide or you can use D rings.

I still have enough little pieces to make a clutch like this...

Matched the purple jacket

Matched the Black Fur Coat I Made
Now to make one to match the crazy fur quilted jacket

I was working on the wing chair, but got distracted to the coat... and maybe a pillow, maybe a little guitar.

The problem is the chairs are beckoning me to sit on them and then I take a break and don't get anything done!....
I am going I am going!  - with the new filler they are sooooooo comfortable... and the leftover fabric can make a tablecloth for the little table and cover some boxes to get more organized here.... sooo fun!

Made the pillow... now making a bigger one for the Sofa.... same fabric... sooo soft-invisible zipper at the bottom

If there is enough time, I am going to try to make either a blouse to wear tomorrow, or an outfit.

But
I have to wash my hair.... so,
1.  I will cut out the coat(Jacket)...
2.  wash my hair...
3.  sew the pillow and then sew the jacket and
4.   see what time it is...
5.  Try to make something to wear under the Jacket that is new...
6.  and some Faux Fur leg warmers.... with some velcro and elastic... quick and easy....
DONE

Gotta Use these Leftovers...!

These chairs are making my creative mind- just go wild.....  Loving the fabrics...!!!!

Don't tell me you don't have enough time to sew.. I don't have enough time to drive around to stores and not find what I want.
