Infinity Scarves
This is just using the width of the fabric, so there is still enough to do a simple tunic top
Simple Minky quilt-changing pad/blankie
All Fabrics and bindings come from G Street Fabrics
The Store Link <---
Simple quilt.. 2 fabrics...in this case/one side is a printed polar fleece-the kitties and the other side is pink minky. The binding on this one is pink satin blanket binding, comes wide and one package did this quilt.
Lay the three layers on top of each other... Minky and flat batting and polar fleece. Line them up and pin them. Start your quilting of the sandwich with a line of stitching from corner to corner diagonally. This will make your quilting even because all excess will squeeze out as you sew each line of quilting. I did the lines on this one every 3 inches.
After you run your lines of quilting over the whole piece, trim your edges evenly and then pin your blanket binding over the edge evenly so the two edges front and back line up and do a blanket stitch over the edge so it is nice a flat with no raw edge of the binding exposed.
The binding is a foldover blanket binding so it is easier to work with.
When you get to a corner you stitch right up to the edge of the blanket and then fold the corner to miter it and stitch the angle first and then down the edge of the blanket so you have a nice finished corner look.
The fabrics are pre-washed before you start so all will wash well after you make it.. You can mix fabrics as long as they are pre washed so if anything is going to shrink or change in texture it will do it before you complete your project.
This one is fleece and minky, but you could use cotton and minky or cotton and polar fleece as long as all is pre washed.
Yes, she likes this one with the kitties!
Although this matches her brothers room, she decided to take this to bed with her at night!!
This one just the minky is pulled around by making the minky backing bigger than the front.
And this blue one made for her brother, well, you see what happened to it!!!
Or in this case both sides minky with just some cotton gauze binding made by cutting strips of the cotton gauze with blue stars on it and folding it over the edges.

Coral Coral-Fancy Dodahs and Embellishing
The usual jacket... in Coral
Butterick 5045
Typical -The width of the fabric strip
Infinity Scarf
Earrings made from Jacket Scraps and Crystals
Swarovski --picked up the scraps next to the sewing machine... pinched in my fingers... hand sewn to gather them and stitched a few stitches, picked up the sew on swarovsk crystals and looped a bunc of those on... and glued a flat circle disc pin back without the pin part or you can glue the disc part of the covered buttons back and then your regular earring backs from your bulk pack..... just want to try once, come by the store and buy two set of earring backs and one pack of 3 covered buttons... you can make two different types of custom earrings for some outfit you are making.
Scraps can make necklaces and bracelets too, braided, or cased beads knoted or bangles wrapped or bracelets braided...... Customize yourself....
Embellish with crystals-- bejewellor or bedazzlors are the tools if you want to prong it or glue it....with glueback crystals.... or buy a quarter of a yard of already fancied fabrics and cut your embellishments and handsew around the tulle or try a little (gently test before putting on a finished garment.

Blue Blue and very blue
My typical work jacket, black sleeveless cowl neck so the sheer arms of the jacket looked enhanced and two separate infinity scarves made from the width of the fabrics so they could double and lay above the cowel of the shirt... The blue was an illusion but matched the jacket and the floral was also a textured chiffon but the perfect blues... the pants you can barely see in the picture but were lightweight scuba, my usual tubins pattern and I made my earrings a little different and hand sewn the trimmed edges of the jacket and put 3 (2 clear beveled and 1 blue beveled swavorski crystals sewn in the center... a pearl with a jeweled butterfly I had in my toolbox and a small sea shell glued on- also in my toolbox of odds and ends.
My earrings hang on a sheet of plastic canvas to be easy to find.

Infinity scarves... Make a tube with slit in the middle turn it out then twist so it is twisted once in the middle and sew your circle ends right sides together and flip out from the middle. Slip stitch opening.
Galaxy Changing Pad
Simple minky backed changing pad
This was made as a long rectangle so it would double as a play pad in the floor.
Backing Minky bigger than the front galaxy cotton. The cotton was pre washed because it would shrink but the minky would not. Flat quilting batting in between and laid out so the backing could be brought around after quilting and be the soft binding. It was quilted about 2 inches apart from corner to corner and out to squeeze out the excess air... and then after quilting the edging was turned over and blanket stitched around the edge.
So Soft and completely washable.

Scarf Box GIft
Ever Wonder what to get Someone Who Will Soon Be 95 Years?
How About a Scarf Box?
Covered a box that could be easily opened with Sequined fabric
Inside of the box is covered so it is pretty when you are lifting the scarves up to look at them and touch and feel the different textures
Each scarf was a bias triangle so it could tied around her head, but some small and some large to use at different times, and seasons, or just a colorful accent at the neckline. |
I wasn't too sure that she was going to like these, but she couldn't stop picking them up and looking at each one and touching and feeling them...
These were fabric wrapped presents tied with a Red Ribbon
Love these Pillows... Pictures don't do it justice
Simple pillows were done by cutting front and back squares the same size... about an inch to inch and half smaller than the pillow inserts. Took invisible zipper and put between the front and back and made it almost the full length of the pillow piece, with about an inch on each end sewn.... then sew the front to back right sides together with the zipper partially open so you can unzip it and turn it right side out and putting the insert in...squeeze it in so the excess of size goes into the corners to prevent limp corners or dogears.. VOILA... yeh! pillows
Back sides were Burgundy and White Invisible zipper at the bottom of the pillow
Seemed to be a hit on Both Counts, but always a wonder what you can get someone who had been around for almost a century.
