sewing a semi-attached bench cushion cover
I was asked to copy this cushion:
Here is what I was given: ( old cushion)
and some fabric with these wide stripes.... Easy ---NOT
Had to do lots of measures and a diagram
WARNING: If you are buying fabric with wide stripes... woven will make your stripes even.... This fabric has the stripes painted on and they are not equal--- recipe for the insane asylum-- Made uneven cushion that has attachments to fit on a piece of furniture you do not have.... and fabric that is impossible to make perfect as the stripes are not even..... AHHHHH--- This fabric did not come from the store I work at--- AHHHHHHHHHH---The cushion insert is not even(made of some rolled upholstery batting stuffed inside the pillows... and it has a flange around the cushion cover.... another thing to show uneven properties.... and each side of the bench cushion-back and bottom has a zipper...
1. Make the center zipper plackard... since it was not going to show I made it out of a solid color the same color as the zippers... WHITE...and I made the zippers the size of the length of the pillow covers...
2. Make the pillow inserts have a muslin cover so your batting roll is even inside the pillow covers and can be removed in a lump and not fall apart when removed.
3. Measure everything and copy the cushion cover by measurements, so you can give back the original cushion and a new cushion-in case the new one fails, or so the owner can have a back up cushion when the new one gets dirty.(don't know if they pre-washed and it may shrink if they try to wash it.
I don't have the bench but I put the velcro in the same place and the channels for the back in the same spacing... Soooo I hope so...
There was a couple of pieces left...from the sides.. so I made toss pillows 16x16 with invisible zippers.
There are a couple of long skinny pieces, I guess I could make them some neck rolls.
If they need a backup, I am giving them their old cushion back.
Yeh!... They just sent me a pic... it did fit..!!!
Soooo, This is why I have not been blogging.... it was a long drawn out project..

My Little Tote Bag
Little Tote to Tote along the alphabet and numbers
"PURR-PAL"
Vinyl, Lining material and Thread purchased at
G Street Fabrics<---link for store site
Cut out the pieces to the tote and Freemotion
Small Zig Satin Stitched the letters and numbers
On Each side of the tote pieces before sewing the tote together
Cut out a strip for strap and fold in and zig zag down the center to make a handle
The Lining has letters and numbers too, in Flannel
fold the lining like you do the outside and sew the side seams, then on the bottom pinch the ends and sew across the end and trim the triangle off so the bottom ends look like this... same with the outside of the tote, and put the lining inside--turn under both the lining and the outside and topstitch catching the strapping on the sides so the end is in between the lining and the outside.
Made just like Grammies big tote bag
Found these Foam Letters at one of the local drug stores
Everyone Should have their personal Alphabet and numbers...LOL
If this looks like fun things to make, here are others at this link...from my other blog...

Turkey Day-Turkey Food
A Little Sewing, but mainly
ordeurves..... aka appetizers
An empty plate
Turkey Shaped Cookie Cutters
Rye and Pumpernickel Swirl Bread
Cut Out Some Turkey Shapes and a plate of white Bread ones, too
Cover them with the seasoned Cream Cheese Mixture and add
Loveley Cucumbers and a sprig of dill on each...
No Meat Turkey for those Difficult to feed guests....
Cucumber dill Sandwiches in a special shape!
Spread:
·
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese softened
·
1/2 cup mayonnaise
Ingredients
·
2 tablespoons powdered buttermilk
·
1/2 teaspoon dried chopped onion
·
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
·
1/4 teaspoon dried dill weed
·
1/4 teaspoon salt
·
Pinch black pepper
Don't forget your Deviled Eggs
To be quicker, I bought the hard boiled eggs... sliced in half, smashed the center in a bowl with a fork...
Added:
14
|
large, hard-boiled EGGS
|
1/2 cup
|
mayonnaise- olive oil mayonnaise was used for mine
|
1-1/2 tsp.
|
Dried Mustard
|
1 tsp.
|
fresh lemon juice
|
1/4 tsp.
|
ground pepper
|
Can add Sour Cream, Large Bacon chips and chives
AND Don't Forget the spinach Balls
I change this recipe to suit the ingredients I have and my mood... In general... 2 10 oz froz chopped spinach packages cooked and drained thrown in bowl... mix with 2 cups of could be Pep.Farm, but whatever Herbal stuffing in box or bag crushed form-rather than squares are best for mixing... 4 eggs beaten well, I usually add some seasoned bread crumbs just for finer mix and all kinds of shredded cheese,-thrown in to be sure there is plenty for each spinach ball, 2 cloves of garlic chopped finely and at least half of a flavorful onion if large or 1 small one chopped into tiny squares.. Cheese can either be a mixed bag or this time I put in shredded parm, and 2 types of shredded cheddar plus shredded mozzarella.... Just lots of flavors...
Mix and put in frig or freezer to make easy to roll into balls and then roll the balls whatever size you like and cook in oven 10 minutes or until slight brown and crunchy on the outside. These are usually a winner.
My local HT did the hard stuff... Turkey and usual mashed potatoes and green bean casserole... Picked up in the morning already cooked... YEH! HT
and it was cooked just right!!!

Multiple Cutting
So, I am using today to cut as many things out as possible.
I am going through my stash and laying out all the things I would like to make the same thing....
My ususal Jackets first...Fuschia Lace.. cut with scallops down the front... Baby Blue spider web lace... Royal Blue tufted chiffon.... Bright Coral Plaid Chiffon and Black with Metallic gold tufting... Gray green puffy chiffon.... all cut out...
Pants....
And TOPS...
And Lastly Dresses.
I need to do a cleanup and resort... so My sewing Table will be clean except for the stacks of items cutout today... This is the plan and I will take pictures as I accomplish it. After this and making one outfit... I will pull out all the Christmas presents stash and line them up... Then I can sew many things this week.
Conclusion:
Saw the Grandchildren a lot.... cut out 6 Jackets... Sewn...NONE...
Will not sew the jackets until I cut out the pants and Blouses...
Those are Magazine storage boxes with patterns in them on the top shelf... a bent paperclip shaped into a hook holds the plastic canvas sheet - holes are just right for the earrings to slipped through and backs holding on. Bracelet storage will be added to my next blog after finishing these outfits.
But here is a sampling of the materials of the Jackets and scarves because as always ... Made the earrings... first..
The Colors of next weeks outfits... earrings made... fuschia and blue beaded bracelets for accessorizing scarves...
At Least Step one is done... and Jackets are cut out...I will time how fast I can do one jacket if it is all cut out... We know if I cut out the pants, they are 20 minutes each. I will time the blouses also. Give me a week and half and my plastic canvas hanging earring holder will be full. The scarves will be the same as the earrings but intertwined with other colors that are in the blouses. The black ones you see are black and bright gold, and I think I have some gold fabric in my stash so that should be a twinkling outfit...
